Support for Young Scientists
We plan to offer special arrangements for about 50 young scientists from former socialist countries in Europe and from developing countries worldwide. Pending funding by a foundation, this will include stipends for travel and accommodation, a fee waiver and participation in a pre-conference workshop. Young scientists from the following countries are, in principle, eligible for reduced fees upon application:

Afghanistan, Albania, Algeria, Angola, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Belarus, Belize, Benin, Bhutan, Bolivia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Botswana, Bulgaria, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cambodia, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, China, Colombia, Comoros, Congo-Brazzaville, Costa Rica, Côte d'Ivoire, Cuba, Dem. Rep. Congo, Djibouti, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Egypt, El Salvador, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Fiji, Gabon, Gambia, Georgia, Ghana, Guatemala, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, India, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Jamaica, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Kiribati, Kyrgyz Republic, Lao, Latvia, Lesotho, Liberia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Madagascar, Malawi, Maldives, Mali, Marshall Islands, Mauritania, Micronesia, Moldova, Mongolia, Morocco, Mozambique, Myanmar, Namibia, Nepal, Nicaragua, Niger, Nigeria, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Paraguay, Peru, Philippines, Romania, Russia, Samoa, Solomon Islands, South Africa, Sri Lanka, St. Vincent, Suriname, Syria, Tajikistan, Thailand, Tonga, Tunisia, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Vanuatu, Vietnam, Yemen.

Furthermore, our Meet-the-Scientist Event will give young researchers the opportunity to present themselves to outstanding experts in their field and discuss their research as well as their professional plans. Besides Invited Speakers and Invited Symposium Chairs, we will ask a selected group of regular authors of conference contributions to be also available for this event. As another means to foster intergenerational exchange in the field, we plan some kind of consultation talks regarding career issues between young researchers and experienced senior scientists. Last, but not least, we would like to strengthen international co-operation of young researchers by compiling special poster sessions for several areas of developmental research.

We are glad to announce that we have received limited funding for young scholars from countries as mentioned above.

Applicants are supposed to submit an abstract for the conference via the abstract submission system on this homepage. In addition, they should send an application for financial support via regular mail to:

The application must include:

an application letter
the submitted abstract
a short CV
a detailed estimate of the travelling costs from a travel agent
We will give preference to young scientist who have already achieved a PhD and are in the early stages of their career (no more than 5 to 7 years post PhD). Depending on the country, however, really advanced graduate students (PhD candidates) may also be eligible.
