good morning seezah. without

By ibou

good morning seezah.
without no doubt deforestation is a concrete way trough which man changes the nature and particularly the climate.
in my country (Niger republic in west africa ) the desert occupied 2/3 of the total mass land (1,260,000km2) and this phenomena is increasing southward, that is the humid region.
to overcome this trend, we are putting efforts to plant trees around the desert margin.
billions of cfa(west africa currency)are spent to restore the vegetation.
so we should think twice before cutting down forest because to some extent we will be forced to invest billions to restore it and this is time consuming.

oh that is good that your country is investinfg much in to the venture of restoring forests.these ends we conservationists are trying to lobby for the act of deforestation to be withheld with and promoting afforestaion.actually strikes over the giving away of natural forests have been taking place here! so it is actually tough job here in uganda.but we shall continue to lobby for the cdause and we hope for the better.

By JOSHUA

Hi, the situation is the same in my country Nigeria. We are actually blessed with thick forest, but due to urbanisation, development and selfishness, we have started clearing all these trees without ant plan to plant new ones. It is a source of income to some group of people in my country, there are laws against it but no implementation. The fear is in the face of global warming what will happen to us. I think scientist needs to do more in informing the decision makers on matters like this.

good day jooshua!for the problem of global warming we as scientists we should advocate for more public awareness about its dangers.if people are told the facts even the person at the grassroots will aim at conserving nature(especially keeping the enviroment green)

Well i concur with you

By Sungai

Well i concur with you Seezah, deforestation is wrecking havoc to the environment and if there were any alternatives for urban growth without having to clear massive pieces of land those should be promoted. But what do you Young scientists think is the solution to the dilema that urban town planners have whenever there is need for space e.g for housing shemes or offices etc. We have the problem right but what about the solution, which is what we really need. What would you feel if you local town council told you that they did not have space for your housing stand because they can not clear land for fear of desertification.

good day for my own opinion

By ibou

good day
for my own opinion desertification is a result of a large scale land clearing. but if we consider urban growth it requires space but not as much as that of desertification.
ideally in urban towns we often come accross spaces well endowed with trees and other natural elements.
these places are meant for recreation areas where people can take breath and practice sports.
urban planners are really conscient of the fact that man needs nature, that is why some natural spaces are left in urban areas. this is an alternative for the so hard relationship between nature and urbanization. both can live toghether and it is possible no matter the urban growth.

the problem of deforestation

By mbady

the problem of deforestation is major however I would give my opinion in regard to a solution. Urbanization comes with its injustice to nature but the way to go around it is to assimilate nature into urbanization. In my country Kenya, and in the city Nairobi, space is just a word in the past kids dont even have playing grounds. Maybe borrowing from the hanging gardens of Babylon might help a bit.....
I agree with Seezah, politicians in africa have little respect for academicians and researchers, here at home is where the prophets are stoned by their own people, however educating our people is priority, climatic change is real, and actions needs to be taken, if AIDS doesnt do it, Climate change will, a lot of lobbying and public education might help

In Poland we don't seem to

By bones23

In Poland we don't seem to have a problem with deforestation, but, for example, the fact is that 500 years ago one of our biggest forests, Puszcza Sandomierska, was more than twice as big as it is now. Most people here don't know about it, and because they still see a lot of trees through their windows, they don't think about deforestation as about their problem and probably they won't see it; in my country, there are really few people that try to direct people's attention to this. And the problem is getting bigger. People cut trees and don't see any consequences, only profits. I agree with Mbady, people should be made aware of danger that deforestation brings along.

By entomology

Deforestation is a great problem in Afria, especially Nigeria where we have misdirected orientation. The worst set of people in this regaerd are the elites who pretend not to know or show "i don't care " attitude to such problem. The illetrates, though culpable, are not too guilty because of thier level of ignorance as a result of lack of education.Governments in Nigeria are enjoying it because it is always an avenue for the leaders to feed fat through variuos programmes purpotedly aimed at address the matter.Poverty level in Nigeria is also cotributingnto it! How do you convincea poor woman who can not afford paraffin to cook not to fell trees as a source of energy for cooking.Nevertheless it a worthwhile BATTLE that must br fought by all and sundry. From Akinola
