"Using the impact factor alone to judge a journal is like using weight alone to judge a person's health."

The title of this post is a sentence taken from a report on citation statistics prepared by the
International Mathematical Union (IMU). Another such take-home message is "Research is too important to measure its value with only a single coarse tool." Given that citation statistics are heavily used in assessing research and researchers, young scientists might gain a lot from investing some time to familiarize themselves with this subject.

This is one of the best

This is one of the best method to analyise the efficancy and potentiality of the scientists in their field, It also identify the devotion of the scientist in his field.

It is not - the whole point

By daniel

It is not - the whole point of this report (compiled by statisticians) is that the impact factor is already only a crude statistical measure of a journal's quality, and it should better not be used (and certainly not without complementary information) to evaluate research at the level of people or institutions.

There are different indexes

By akhyar

There are different indexes to evaluate the productivity of the scientists and I was engaged in this process. The actual thing is that this is just to reward the scientists who have achieved lot of in their period but it discourages the young scientists. If the world like to make these young scientists for future great scientists and noble laureates then it must be focused to change the criteria for evaluation for the encouragement of young scientists. This is very important for the youngs.
