Moroccan Academy of Young Scientists
January 06, 2006 Creation of the Moroccan Academy of Young Scientists
For a new impulse to the scientific research in Morocco and a contribution to the investment promotion in this field, a pilot committee was created to exchange ideas and points of view concerning the structure and the objectives to be reached by a new organization, a true crossroads of exchange and meeting, named: "Moroccan Academy of Young Scientists - MAYS". Thus, following the example of the other international and national associations, i.e. the CJC (Confederation of Young Researchers), EuroDoc (European Association of Young Researchers), WAYS (World Academy of Young Scientists). This show the determination of young moroccan scientists to devote scientific research as a choice accompanying the evolution occurring at the national and the international levels.
Encouragements of the Ministry of National Education, Higher Education, Staff Training and Scientific Research with dynamism of the pilot committee, constituted a determining support to prepare the organization of the first general assembly of this academy.
This structure was born on Friday, January 06, 2006, one year after the creation of the worldwide network of young scientists "WAYS" in December 2004 in Marrakech (Morocco). The WAYS president attended the general constitution assembly of the moroccan academy, who mentioned the interest to cultivate in the young people the interest for science and to encourage them to exchange experiments and innovation.
Initially, MAYS gathers 120 young researchers and scientists aging from 15 to 40 and belonging to all the universities and the staff training institutions of all the Kingdom’s cities. In addition, MAYS will join its efforts to those of the moroccan scientists installed abroad.
MAYS projects to coordinate all the efforts to undertake activities which aim at a true contribution to the scientific research promotion in Morocco.
Its principal activities will consist in:
* Encourage and promote scientific research;
* Create synergies between young moroccan scientists;
* Sensitize youth people to carry out scientific studies and careers;
* Organize scientific activities and meetings;
* Establish bonds with various national and international homologous associations;
* Play an interface role between young moroccan researchers and scientific research authorities;
* Take part in the installation of a communication platform to diffuse and facilitate the access to information.
In addition, MAYS will play an active part in the development of the international scientific relations by establishing links with foreign organizations in terms of cooperation and exchange agreements and the co-organization of conferences.
To summarize, MAYS will contribute to make science more attractive and more comprehensible and therefore accessible to the morrocans youth.
