Hmmm... across the pond, we have an issue with a rather saturated market of people in the PhD pipeline. Recently, some people originally from 'developing' countries are enjoying the opportunity to return home for positions that have been created as a result of economic factors. Rather than staying on as a temporary postdoc for a long number of years, the prospect of being able to return home is a viable option. This comes at a time when the budget for the NIH is dropping (again) by -2.5%; that is with respect to inflation. I think that things do balance out in the long run. :)
