I am puzzled by the sentence:

Usually the story goes that physical constant and laws are such that our universe is compatible with life. Believers are inclined to consider that the universe was designed this way for life to actually happen, the others preferring to think that such a statement is a tautology and that intelligent design can not be infer from the coherence of physics and its compatibility with life
I've never hears of a more habitable universe and I suspect that Shapiro refers to something that could be highly valuable for this debate.
Hence my question:
Do you or anyone at WAYS interested in string theory could provide some more information about this "more habitable" alternative universe?
(How would you define, measure and test such a concept?)
