Description

The vast majority (80 per cent) of energy today is provided from thermal sources, i.e. coal, gas and oil; but there are growing global concerns regarding the lack of sustainability of these forms of energy that bring into question their use in a long-term energy strategy.

Greater emphasis has been placed on sustainable energy policies that include the significant development of renewable energy supplies.

The largest source of renewable energy comes from a proven technology, hydropower. Hydropower represents more than 92 per cent of all renewable energy generated, and continues to stand as one of the most viable sources of new generation into the future. It also provides an option to store energy, to optimise electricity generation.

This course on hydropower is suitable for young faculty members of higher education institutes and will include discussion on:

introduction to hydropower advances in hydropower
environmental aspects
international experiences
environmental management
hydropower management

Registration Information
No fee will be charged for faculty members of engineering colleges/ technical universities/ polytechnics and other institutions approved by the All India Council for Technical Education.

Those working in private, public and government organisations and scientists and engineers in research and development establishments are also eligible to apply for participation at a fee of US$50.

A registration form can be downloaded from the website.
