International association of Universities. 2008 essay competition - Contributions of Higher Education - Teaching research and service towards the UN Millenium Development Goals
== Deadline for Application: Jan 18 ==
Description
Science centres are a means for informal learning; places where one can discover, explore and test ideas about the natural world. Areas where these can be of importance in societal progression include community partnerships, youth employment, urban redevelopment, environment restoration, and volunteer schemes. They are a vital entity, helping the people at large in understanding and appreciating the changes taking place in society as a consequence of the rapid advancements of science and technology.
In order to share experiences on these science centres, the NAM S&T Centre has organised previously four international scientific events in this area. They now announce the organisation of the 5th International Workshop on 'Enhancing Change through Science Centres' jointly with the Department of Science & Technology, Government of South Africa at Johannesburg and invites nominations for participation from the member countries of the NAM S&T Centre and other developing countries.
