The last two years have seen a dramatic, worldwide upsurge in interest and governmental support for bioenergy. In its 30th year, the Symposium on Biotechnology for Fuels and Chemicals is uniquely well positioned to continue to attract experts from around the world who will gather in New Orleans May 4-7, 2008, to discuss the latest research breakthroughs and results in biotechnology for fuels and chemicals.
With the two-fold increase in attendance last year, the Symposium has been encouraged to modify the meeting format to include 12 dual technical sessions to accommodate over 80 presentations, as well as a Plenary Session and two large poster sessions. In addition, a Special Topic on International Bioenergy Centers, with presentations on the plans and expectations of newly emerging bioenergy centers around the world, will be the focus of a Tuesday evening session.
NEW! SIM will feature a placement service during the 30th Symposium. Employers and prospective employees wishing to participate should contact Bob Berger, SIM Placement Chair (bbberg@worldnet.att.net). Jobs and resumes will be posted in the Registration Area.
In addition, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) in Golden, Colorado will have a recruiter present. The recruiter will discuss working at NREL and currently available opportunities. Resumes will be accepted for open positions. Located in the Registration Area.
Participants will also benefit from the exciting environment New Orleans and its French Quarter continues to offer.

Message from the organisers
It is a great pleasure for our labs to host the fourth International Conference on Speech Prosody in Campinas, Brazil. Speech Prosody 2008 is the fourth conference of a series promoted by the Special Interest Group on Speech Prosody (SProSIG) of the International Speech Communication Association (ISCA). The first one was held in Aix-en-Provence, France, in 2002, followed biennally by Nara, Japan (2004), and Dresden, Germany (2006). Now time has come for a change of place and hemisphere by welcoming prosody researchers in Brazil.
About Campinas
Campinas is São Paulo State's second major city with about 1 million inhabitants. It is the city of Carlos Gomes, a famous classic composer of the XIXth century and author of the Guarani opera. The name of the city, meaning "meadows", derives from its longer, older name, Campinas do Mato Grosso, a resting place settled for the Bandeirantes expeditions, going to the Caminho dos Goiases, during the XVIIIth century. The city was widely known in the XIXth century for the sugar cane and coffee plantations, which can be seen even nowadays in the outskirts of the city.
Speech Prosody
Speech prosody covers a multidisciplinary area of research involving scientists working on the suprasegmental aspects of speech, having very different backgrounds and coming from different traditions, including linguistics and phonetics, conversation analysis, semantics and pragmatics, sociolinguistics, acoustics, speech synthesis and recognition, cognitive psychology, neuroscience, speech therapy and language teaching, among others.
Call for Papers
The Call for Papers will be delivered by May 2007, inviting participants to contribute in all areas of speech prosody. We particularly invite the community to renew and broaden the interest in Rhythm Analysis and Modelling, Grammar and Discourse, Pathological Speech Prosody, as well as L2 Acquisition Prosody.
Best Regards,
The Organising Committee

HIV was isolated 25 years ago. HIV research then and now bear no comparison. While the meeting will understandably take us back to 1983, it seeks to present cutting edge research from the virus to the clinic. It kicks off with structural studies on the virus and moves on to how the host cell tries to restrict replication by a variety of different approaches. The day ends with an overview of the enormous diversity of simian look-alike virus. The second day is resolutely immunological and covers antibodies, T cell responses and immunopathogenesis. The ensemble is tied up by reviewing the impact of human polymorphisms on disease progression. The last day turns to the difficult problems of a vaccine and drug resistance. The changing face of clinical AIDS and the disease burden in the Africa and Asia bring up the rear.
