The critical role of S&T statistics in the planning for technological development of a country is self-evident. Some countries have set up special institutions / organizations to handle this important information, for example, the Division of Science Resource Statistics (DSRS) under the National Science Foundation in USA and the National Science and Technology Management Information System (NSTMIS) under the Department of Science & Technology in India.
