*INFORMAL GET-TOGETHER SUNDAY DURING AGU'S OPENING RECEPTION *
* Sunday, December 10*
* 17:00 - 18:30*
* Moscone West Level 2 Foyer*
Sue Weiler, a colleague who is working with Sheldon Drobot and myself on
the New Generation of Polar Researchers project for the IPY, and I will
plan to plant ourselves somewhere obvious to serve as a 'point of
contact'. We will be happy to answer questions about IPY activities for
students and early-career polar researchers, the DISCCRS and DIALOG
initiatives for interdisciplinary graduates, and serve as an informal
meeting place for past DIALOG/DISCCRS symposium participants, students
and recent PhD grads interested in interdisciplinary work. We will have
along a 4' inflatable penguin named 'Charlie', so we should be easy to
find. :) Join us at 18:15 if interested in going out to dinner as a
group.
*WOULD YO LIKE TO LEARN MORE ABOUT ACTIVITIES PLANNED FOR STUDENTS AND
EARLY-CAREER RESEARCHERS DURING THE UPCOMING IPY? *
Sue Weiler and I have reserved a room to provide a brief presentation on
early-career activities to be held in conjunction with the upcoming IPY.
There will be a brief overview and time for Q&A.
Dave Carlson, Director of the International Polar Year's International
Activities, and Chris Elfring and Maria Uhle, National Academy of
Science’s Polar Research Board will be on site to answer questions.
Program managers from NSF have also been invited to speak.
*Monday, December 11*
* 12:30 - 1:30*
* Marriott Pacific A room*
No food will be provided, but the Marriott has a deli, "City Blends",
and the Moscone Center has food -- so plan on grabbing a a lunch-to-go
and join us!
*
We look forward to seeing you at AGU
