Since January 2003, the MENTOR Initiative has been running regular 'Malaria Control in Emergencies Intensive Training Workshops' for both field and headquarters based staff of national and international nongovernmental organisations, faith based organisations, UN agencies, donors, National Malaria Control Programmes and recently for suppliers too.
The aim of our workshops is to build the capacity of agencies at the forefront of healthcare provision in humanitarian crises to assess, plan, implement, monitor and evaluate effective and coordinated malaria prevention and control strategies as part of their overall emergency health response.
We are now please to announce that the next Africa based Malaria Control in Humanitarian Crises Intensive Training Workshop will be held in Entebbe, Uganda, from 21-25 April 2008.
We are currently welcoming applications. The workshop is targeted specifically at:
1) HQ based staff of humanitarian relief organisations - providing country programme support, involved in policy development and/or advocacy functions;
2) Field-based workers, with management responsibility for an emergency public health programme;
3) Commercial partners who are involved in the support and supply and of materials to the humanitarian sector;
4) Students (MSc and above), trainers and policy makers working in operational research with a specific interest in public health in emergencies; and
5) Institutional and non-institutional agencies funding and/or providing technical support to humanitarian organisations in the emergency context.
All workshop materials have been prepared in English and the workshop will be conducted mostly in English. Participants should be able to keep up with the pace of teaching in English. The 5-day course is a fee-paying course, costing £800.00 GBP per person (£660.00 GBP for NGO's).
This fee includes training costs for 5 full days (from 08.30 until 18.00 hours daily), accommodation for the 5 nights (starting Sunday night), and all meals during the workshop.
Please complete and return the application form to Géraldine Druot at geraldine@mentor-initiative.net as soon as possible and at the latest by Monday 24th March 2008.
We do of course welcome multiple applications from each organisation (there is a maximum of 50 places available).
