We have an exciting opportunity for a Lead Product Development Scientist supporting our Kashi Division. This opportunity is located in Battle Creek, Michigan. The Lead Product Development Scientist manages and leads medium to large size projects to introduce new products, improve product quality and efficiency in operations throughout the Kashi business. This individual has a major impact in the Kashi team as a technical resource to all functions and provides high impact support to project teams. Exhibits innovation in discovery, advancement, and evaluation of new technologies in the area of food/process research and development.
•Plans and delivers projects within the appropriate systems while challenging those systems to improve performance.
•Demonstrates leadership within a natural, organic, and healthy foods formulation and assists the team in building these competencies.
•Adept at deploying technical discoveries in food product concepts that meet consumer needs or meet internal needs for efficiency improvement or cost avoidance. Demonstrates ability to deliver complex projects through formulation and process knowledge, and incorporates new information and ingredients to maximize value and distinctiveness of Kashi foods. Although this position does not have formal direct reports, incumbent will demonstrate leadership in project teams and may have manager accountability for interns.
•Appropriate communication is essential, and the ability to mentor junior teammates is a strong indicator of success. Develops strong relationships with business partners in Marketing, Sensory, Operations, and throughout the business to work at top efficiency and communicate effectively with partners.
•Will leverage system capabilities of Kellogg as well as within Kashi, and will adapt effectively to both companies’ distinctive cultures.
•Additionally, this position requires a strong external network including suppliers, consultants, and manufacturers.
Requirements:
This job requires a Bachelor of Science Degree in Food Science, Chemical Engineering, or related fields with a minimum of 6 years experience, or a Master of Science or PhD degree in Food Science, Chemical Engineering, or related fields with a minimum of 5 years experience.
The individual must possess leadership, cost consciousness, communication skills, and diplomacy that will promote good relations with internal and external partners, in addition to demonstrating strong technical capabilities and delivering against accountabilities.
Work in non-local manufacturing or test facilities is typically required 30 to 40 percent of the time. Most travel is anticipated to be domestic.
Projects frequently require working beyond the normal workday hours, shift work, and on weekends.
Operation of process equipment may be necessary, especially in pilot plant and kitchen.
