Location(s)
The Max Planck Institute for Human Cognitive and Brain Sciences in Leipzig, Germany, invites you to apply for a
PhD position (code number "D 2/08")
The focus of our multi-disciplinary research group is on translational approaches to investigate the neural correlates of cognitive and behavioral dysfunctions in neurodegenerative disorders by applying voxel-based morphometry (VBM). More specifically, we want to use clinical (comprehensive neuropsychological) data from a large patient group of the Day Clinic of Cognitive Neurology at the University of Leipzig and relate it to atrophy and decreases in glucose utilization (as measured by MRI and FDG-PET). The main focus of the project is placing dementia in a framework of cognitive neuroscience. Findings might be embedded into future behavioral and/or functional imaging studies.
Candidates with a background in medicine, psychology or a related field should be interested in clinical neuroscience, neuroplasticity, as well as in higher cognitive function and brain imaging. The successful candidate will be enthusiastic and have a strong interest in this exciting research area.
A background in MRI analysis techniques (SPM, Matlab etc.) and good statistical skills would be of advantage. The Max Planck Institute in Leipzig offers an excellent multi-disciplinary and interactive research environment with access to excellent research facilities (3T and 7T research MRI scanners, MEG, EEG, NIRS and TMS devices). The candidate will profit from the neuropsychological expertise of the Day Clinic of Cognitive Neurology that is tightly affiliated to the Max Planck Institute. The position is funded for maximally 3 years from now and will be held open until suitable candidates have been found.
