Tales of resettlement - a new collection of life stories from people displaced by development projects.

Every year millions of people are displaced by large-scale development
projects such as roads, dams, and coalmines. Many never regain their
former quality of life, and pay the price of personal, social and
cultural disruption as well as economic upheaval.

"How could we be asked to leave a land that was ours? Everyone was
crying. It was not just the pain of leaving the village; it was the
uncertainty of what lay ahead..."
Gul Bibi, displaced by Pakistan's Tarbela Dam in 1976

Now you can read the moving stories of some of those displaced in
India,
Pakistan, Lesotho, Kenya, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana and Namibia, in a
series of booklets.

PANOS - 20 YEARS OF COMMUNICATING FOR DEVELOPMENT
www.panos.org.uk
For twenty years Panos has been working with the media and other
communicators to foster debate on under-reported, misrepresented or
misunderstood development issues. We believe that only by including the
voices and views of those most affected by these issues - usually the
poorest and most marginalised people in society - will lasting
solutions
be found.
