Parapsychology - Pro and Con
Tue, 10/02/2009 - 11:53am | by celindgrenWhere does parapsychology currently stand as a true science? Although aligned with the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), most psychologists are not impressed by the work done by the parapsychology community.
"Despite the fact that psychologists have been in the forefront of paranormal studies, a study of 1,100 college professors in the United States found that only 34% of psychologists believe that ESP is either an established fact or a likely possibility. Comparable figures for other disciplines are much higher: natural scientists (55%), social scientists [excluding psychologists] (66%) and for academics in the arts, humanities, and education (77%). Of the psychologists surveyed, 34% believe psi is an impossibility, while only 2% of the other respondents maintained this position (Wagner and Monnet 1979)." (Skeptic's Dictionary)
I have spent nearly 30 years investigating this field. However, I have not been impressed by what I have read or the non-published research I have conducted. I am, however, still opened to future research in the field. Alas, with every potential breakthrough in the field, there still remains the constant fraud, deception and incompetence by some of the field's brightest stars.
I would like to invite any scholars, scientists or educators, with advanced degrees, to submit 'pro' or 'con' chapters for the work "Parapsychology, a Science for the 21st Century?" Please submit your chapter proposals to Dr. Carl Edwin Lindgren - celindgren@panola.com The submissions must be scientific in nature and present a clear and coherent thesis.

13th European Conference on Developmental Psychology: Support for Young Scientists
Tue, 31/10/2006 - 10:41am | by maananSupport for Young Scientists
We plan to offer special arrangements for about 50 young scientists from former socialist countries in Europe and from developing countries worldwide. Pending funding by a foundation, this will include stipends for travel and accommodation, a fee waiver and participation in a pre-conference workshop. Besides Invited Speakers and Invited Symposium Chairs, we will ask a selected group of regular authors of conference contributions to be also available for this event. As another means to foster intergenerational exchange in the field, we plan some kind of consultation talks regarding career issues between young researchers and experienced senior scientists. Last, but not least, we would like to strengthen international co-operation of young researchers by compiling special poster sessions for several areas of developmental research.
We are glad to announce that we have received limited funding for young scholars from countries as mentioned above.
Applicants are supposed to submit an abstract for the conference via the abstract submission system on this homepage. In addition, they should send an application for financial support via regular mail to:

The application must include:
