Dr. Muhammad Akhyar Farrukh completed his B.Sc (Hons) in Chemistry and M.Sc in Physical Chemistry and secured first class with first positions in both examinations. He has been duly awarded THREE GOLD MEDALS for his outstanding academic performance in the M.Sc final Chemistry examination 1999 of the University of Karachi and was declared the best student of the whole Faculty of Science. He did his Ph.D in the field of Chemistry in 2003, first postdoctoral research (catalysis) in 2007 in Brazil on a fellowship awarded by the Academy of Sciences for the Developing World (TWAS), Italy and CNPq, Brazil and second postdoctoral research (nanomaterials) in 2010 in Malaysia awarded by Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) and TWAS. He has received other Awards/Shields/ Scholarships on his excellent academic record.

He started his career as Full Time Cooperative Teacher in the Department of Chemistry, University of Karachi (August 2000 to January 2004). He served Pakistan Council of Scientific and Industrial Research as Senior Scientific Officer from January 2004 to October 2005 then Pakistan Council for Science and Technology as Senior Research Officer from October 2005 to June 2008. Currently, he is working as Assistant Professor of Chemistry at GC University Lahore since June 2008 and appointed as TWAS-UNESCO Associate at JNCASR, India in June 2010.

He has been awarded “Young Chemist Award” by IUPAC in Italy in 2007 and selected as “Young Scientist” by TWAS in Egypt and IAP in Germany in 2010. He is nominated as young scientist by PAS, selected by IAP and invited by World Economic Forum to participate in the annual meeting of new champions 2010, China. He participated as a representative of Pakistan in the first Assembly of the UNESCO-affiliated World Association of Young Scientists (WAYS) in Morocco in 2004 and other international conferences/trainings in Brazil, Italy, Germany, The Netherlands, Egypt and Malaysia sponsored by UNESCO, IUPAC, TWAS, WAYS, UNU, IAP and PSF. He is a member of 12 international professional bodies. He has published 37 papers in international/national repute journals, published/edited 13 books and presented 22 papers in international/national conferences and gave 7 invited lectures up to 2011. He is on the editorial board of four journals. He has also been approved by the Higher Education Commission as a Ph.D supervisor in 2004 and selected as “Productive Scientists of Pakistan” by PCST, Government of Pakistan in 2005. His biography has been cited in the “Who's Who in the World” 2010 and listed in TOP 100 Scientists. He is also nominated as IBC Man of the Year and International Educator of the Year 2011.
