- My research focuses on the development of novel sediment management and monitoring techniques to aid in the development of long-term sustainable reservoir and river basin environment that can be easily adapted in the face of changing water supply storage, flood control, irrigation and power generation. In order to realize the sustainable utilization of water resources and ecological environment protection I employ different methodologies, each one designed to achieve a specific result. The methodologies range from physical modeling to field measurements and numerical simulations, according to the spatial and temporal scales under investigation. My early work focused on numerical simulation for water and sediment management in channel networks to control flood in the Nile Delta of Egypt. My recent work focuses on using RF-Tag, 3D Laser Scanner, LSPIV and image techniques for experimental and prototype investigations of flow and sediment in order to evaluate environmental influences and effectiveness for sustainable reservoir in Japan and European Alps. Part of my current focus is on the Aswan High Dam (AHD) responses and Nile delta of Egypt to sedimentations of the newly constructed reservoirs in the upstream regions of the Nile basin.

I grew up near the Nile River, Egypt, and thus have always had an interest in the river engineering. In 1997, I received a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Alexandria University, Egypt. After three years of working in academic (Alexandria University and Arab Academy) and practical fields (Consulting Engineering Office and construction companies), I began a Master of Engineering in Saga University, Faculty of Science and Engineering, Japan. There, I studied Modeling for water management and flood prevention for the channel networks. After joining the Laboratoire de Constructions Hydrauliques (LCH) at the Swiss Federal Institute, Switzerland, from 2003 to 2008, as a PhD student and research associate, I obtained Doctorate on the topic of reservoir sedimentation. I was awarded a Swiss National Fund for Scientific Research (SNSF) for one year postdoctoral research project at Kyoto University, Japan. My postdoctoral research focuses on physical and numerical modeling and field observations for dry dam and sediment replenishment projects in Japan. After that, I worked for Kyoto University as a senior researcher at DPRI. My current interests focus on the reservoir sediment management measures and instrumentation technologies to monitoring them. In addition to my research programs, I would like to form new research projects about Hydroecology and Ecohydrology. Currently, I am working at the German University in Cairo (GUC) as an associate professor in the Civil Engineering Department.
