The Hungarian Academy of Sciences, in partnership with UNESCO, ICSU and the European Commission, is organising the third WSF to be held between 8-10 November 2007 in Budapest.
The World Science Forum is a unique opportunity for WAYS members to get to know each other, to meet respected and influent fellows and to get exposed to new and challenging ideas from hard science to science policy.
The WSF will be free of charge for all WAYS members.
However,we need to fund travel and accomodation.
WAYS is co-organizing the session dedicated to the future generation and the future of learning that will focus on three main topics:
* What will the technology have to offer?
* What will the institutional and economical context look like?
* What can pedagogy achieve?
Invited speakers include:
* Antonio M. Battro, Chief Education Officer. One Laptop per Child
* Ravinder Bhatia, Vice President The ScholarShip
* Mario Cervantes, Directorate for Science, Technology and Industry/ Science Policy Division/ OECD
* Peter Csermely, Network of Youth Excellence
Wynne Harlen, University of Bristol
* Pierre Léna, French Academy of Science, La main à la Pâte
* Manfred Prenzel, Leibniz-Institut für Pädagogik der Naturwissenschaften
* Rick Watson, Founder of the Global Text Project
In addition, this year WAYS is also given the possibility to present the point of view of young scientists on a challenging topic: The limits of evidence based decision making.
Summary: Science-based policy involves producing high-quality scientific evidence, building bridges between the producers and users of scientific evidence, and incorporating these evidences into policy and practice.
From epistemological uncertainties to multilateral knowledge flows to cultural values both structural and contingent factors influence these steps. This session will explore the different limits to science-based policy to help defining the context for a good co-evolution of science and policy.
